History of cleaning as a service

In recent years, many areas of activity have developed significantly and one of them is cleaning services. They have become quite common and many have become densely integrated into people’s lives. But such widespread demand was not always there, and just a few decades ago it was hard to imagine that you could order cleaning services at home or at work from an outside company and not have to hire a special person for this. In our country the emergence of this service was later than in other countries, but now it is already quite a developed infrastructure with a large number of services, professional approach and high quality results.

Where did the cleaning was born?

The homeland of cleaning service is considered Great Britain. It was in this country that commercial companies began to offer cleaning services. For the first time such an offer appeared on the market in the early 19th century, and people could order cleaning of their apartments from professionals. Before that cleaning services were the responsibility of workers, who had to look after the house, or the owners had to do everything themselves. It is worth noting that here the companies were not just hiring workers who could provide services in this area, and even organized the Institute of cleaning sciences. This institution exists in Great Britain even now. It was at that time that a separate profession of house cleaner, for whom this action was the main occupation, rather than a supplement to the rest of the work, officially appeared.

Professional cleaning evolved extremely quickly, as it was facilitated by technical development. One of the most momentous events was the invention of the vacuum cleaner. It appeared in 1901, and its creator called it “Billy the Sniffer. Naturally, at that time such appliances were not available in the same way they are now. The first vacuum cleaners were not powered by electricity. They had a gasoline electric motor that drove a vacuum pump, which gave the devices a rather large size and an impressive power of 5 horsepower. During use, the equipment made a lot of noise, which was quite unusual for people and scared many people. All this led to the fact that the inventors considered the new technique as the most ridiculous invention of the era.

It is worth noting that such vacuum cleaners cleaning companies did not use for cleaning apartments, because over time there were new, more convenient and rational models – in 1907 in the U.S., a new vacuum cleaner was invented. It had a dust collector, the device already weighed only 20 kg and took up much less space. It was a more practical solution for commercial use. Not all organizations could afford to buy such equipment, and there were difficulties with transportation, so many used manual labor.

The Emergence of Dry Cleaning

Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for a cleaning company to use dry cleaning to clean up soiled upholstered furniture, carpets and other textiles. In many ways, the discoveries in this field came about entirely by accident, with both of the seminal cases being in France. The first to discover the positive effect of kerosene on the cleaning of fabrics was the tailor Jolly. He accidentally spilled it on the cloth of the table where the lamp stood and noticed that the grease stains disappeared in the place of the spill. After that, this material was actively used for cleaning.

The second case introduced the use of turpentine into the field in question. The story sounds less noble, but just as effective. A drunken French longshoreman fell into a barrel of turpentine, but his friends managed to save him. Afterwards, it seemed a miracle not only that the longshoreman survived, but that his greasy clothes got clean. Soon, cleaning companies began to use turpentine to clean fabrics, despite the presence of a specific odor of this substance. Turpentine was used in this field for quite a long time, until it was replaced by benzene. It proved to be more effective and did not have such an unpleasant odor, so it was well suited for cleaning all fabrics.

Time for Change

Initially, overt dry cleaning agents and cleaning equipment were used in the cleaning industry until the middle of the 20th century. It wasn’t long before a major change occurred as new methods and technology emerged to make the job much easier. This is due to the active development and demand for services. New developments in the field of cleaning led to an innovative breakthrough.

One of the landmark developments was the production of single-disc floor cleaning machines. This led to a significant reduction in manual labor in commercial house cleaning. The services were now more efficient and the level of quality was higher. The machines in use became multi-tasking. In addition to scrubbing floors, they cleaned, polished, and finally applied a protective compound to various surfaces. Due to this development in the 1960s, the number of rooms for which cleaning services were provided became more extensive.

Cleaning and apartment cleaning in Western countries changed from decade to decade. In 1969, a new floor cleaning device appeared. They were “Taski”, which included two tanks installed on a special platform. The first tank contains clean water, and the second is drained dirty. This approach allowed increasing the treatment area, so cleaning began to be used not only for cleaning private homes and apartments, but also for industrial sites, businesses, etc.

A few more years later, a new type of equipment appeared that could suction and supply water to wash floors. After that, vacuum cleaners and rags almost ceased to be used in the commercial sector, as did many manual operations. During this period, more production and release of new models with improved features began. From this we can conclude that initially many types of home cleaning equipment were developed for industrial and commercial applications, and then there were home models. To this period refers the appearance of the universal international coding. It was based on color. The color coding on the machine identified the machine’s method of use, application, etc.

New dry-cleaning machines are still appearing today. The field is getting better and more innovative, more economical, more environmentally friendly and more efficient. There are now a very large number of options and solutions, so the field of cleaning has become more highly specialized. The equipment that is used for apartments, commercial premises and businesses can be very different. The same applies to cleaning products, because different areas have their own characteristics of dirt. Residential areas have to deal with domestic dirt and you need to maintain a high level of safety, because people are more in contact with objects after cleaning. Industrial premises need strong agents that effectively remove dirt, chemical waste, residues of consumables. Now disinfection services have become more relevant to destroy viruses and disinfect surfaces with which people come into contact.

Development of services in the United States

Prices for apartment cleaning are now quite affordable, but just a few decades ago there was no professional provision of such services. Administrative offices and businesses were cleaned by in-house services. Now many people use outsourcing, and for private residences the service has become more convenient and affordable. Using professional cleaning services in Okaloosa is now more convenient and the right choice than solving such problems yourself. This is due to the following advantages:

Cleaning prices are affordable and using the service is not a great luxury;

Specialists use quality equipment, which allows deep cleaning, after which there is no dirt, no fungus, etc;

professionals carry out the work quickly, so the cleaning process does not take much time;

professional cleaning agents are used during cleaning, which are expensive to buy on their own and can not be found everywhere.
